Dylan
2005
After a flood of adoption requests, Dylan has found his new
human.
On Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2006, our star rescue of
2005 was taken into the loving care of Nina Heller. He is
currently spending his time as her Level I/II dressage lesson
horse in Sun Valley, CA.
Dylan 2007
Dylan’s new human, local dressage instructor Nina Heller, and he found each other and
the Equine Adoption became official on St. Valentines Day of 2006. Just 5 months after his
rescue by the HDHC, Dylan knew what Nina needed and Nina knew what Dylan wanted,
“To live out his days “Proud”, doing what he enjoyed and was trained to
do. Being a Great Dressage Lesson Horse! I can’t believe a year has now passed since
the adoption of Dylan took place. Dylan’s new home at Summer Wood Stables, in La Tuna
Canyon is more like Horse Heaven than a working Dressage facility. In the summer of 2006, I
had the pleasure to personally witness Dylan with two of his students, Carol and Beth, during
their weekly lessons under the instruction of Nina Heller. Nina is a true expert of Dressage.
She in my humble opinion, is one of the best teachers I have ever audited and witnessed teach
Dressage in my life. She truly knows what she is doing with Horses and Humans!

Please read the following testimonies from Dylan’s Students at Summer Wood Stables.
Dylan has given me the love of riding back after 25 years. He is helping me to get my skills
back and always puts a smile on my face. I look forward to spending time with him as well as
riding. He’s a good boy! –-Carol
Riding Dylan is giving me so much self awareness and is teaching me to better control my
movements. –Kelly, 15
As a fairly new rider, I didn’t realize how much I learned from Dylan until I rode him
again. I then found myself posting better on the left, moving forward better and remaining
more in the center of the saddle. Each time I ride Dylan, my rides improve. I have also become
more aware and subtle movements and how even breathing slowly influences Dylan’s responses,
this making me more aware of my body position, etc. Dylan is a sweet gentleman with lots of power.
An excellent teacher. –Maxine
Dylan has taught me to be a greater rider all around. Too be more subtle with my aids, and more
sensitive with my entire body. He has helped me correct my position because he is a willing,
obedient, cooperative partner, who doesn’t require anymore than a gentle request to move.
I was accustomed to riding a much smaller horse with bigger movements. Finally, he has allowed
me to experience some of the finer points of riding that I had previously heard or read about,
but never really accomplished. I look forward to every lesson he gives me! –Terri
Dylan is a wonderful guy whether grooming or riding together in the ring. He has the best
manners but mostly he is a “Great Horse” to “Affirm the Aids” that we
are trying to learn. For the first time I have felt a “Canter” with a horse
“Coming Under Himself”. He has just been Great! –Greg
During the course of his rescue, the HDHC was able to raise
over $6000 to go to his personal costs, around $5500 of which
went to his care and housing. This leaves about $500 in the pot
to go to our next new four-legged friend!
