Karen & Chewy

Karen Kim was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. After graduating from USC with a Bachelor's degree in business finance she went on to become an accomplished actress. Unfortunately, complications involving an injury resulted in a shattered knee cap, broken ankle and a spinal fusion which discontinued Karen's acting career for the next couple of years. The long and arduous road to recovery had been an uphill battle, to say the least. Although she attended daily physical therapy sessions, being indoors for the majority of the time was not conducive to her overall well-being. Thus, she wanted to take this opportunity to immerse herself in activities that were outdoors and since she had always been interested in horses, this was the optimal time to immerse herself into riding and learning more about these horses. Undoubtedly, horses not only became one of Karen's passions, but also provided a valuable therapeutic element in her recovery.

Karen purchased Chewbacca, a beautiful draft/quarter cross who is affectionately known as Chewy, from a paint horse breeding farm in Bakersfield, California. At 16 years old, Chewy was more than due for his retirement having worked for the six years prior as a lesson pony. Chewy & Karen have become inseparable for he was the horse that helped her therapeutic recovery.

Because of Chewy’s love and lesson’s, not to mention Karen's determination as a True American Cowgirl, she has becoming quite an experienced equestrian in the past few years.

Karen decided to welcome into her herd "Cassius Tariq," a 7 year old, registered Polish Arabian. Cash --as we all call him-- is like finding a "Gem in the Sand".



Karen and her partner Jeffrey just welcomed the birth of their beautiful daughter “Skylar Kim” on Oct 11th 2007. New Mommy Doll Karen juggles motherhood, her horses, her career and being an officer on the HDHC board of directors with love and ease.

All of the HDHC sends Congratulations to Karen for she has just made the most Beautiful Cowgirl we have ever seen in these parts!
